I had a chance to see a copy of the book 13 Things Mentally Strong Couples Don’t Do. I really appreciated the chance to review the book. Even though my husband and I have been in a solid relationship for over 20 years, we can always stand to get tips for how to make our relationship stronger - or confirmation that we're doing the right things.
Overall, this book was well-written. It would be suitable for new couples or anyone who wants to improve their current relationship. Many of the chapters covered things that my husband and I have struggled with in the past. Nearly any relationship is going to, at some point, face at least one of the things discussed in this book.
Topics in the book include setting boundaries, appreciating your partner, growth, and communication. None of the topics should come as a surprise to any reader, but it never hurts to hear another perspective on issues. One thing I really liked about this book was its readability. Instead of just pages of text, Amy does a really good job of making use of formatting tricks like bullet points, numbered lists, changing fonts, and boxes. None of these features are used so much that it's distracting, but it's actually perfect for people who like to skim, or people who have a hard time with large blocks of text. It also has a fresh, modern layout.
Another excellent feature is the amount of actionable things to do and conversation starters. This means that readers can start working to improve their relationships right away while reading the book, instead of not knowing what to do with the information.
This book would make a great gift for new couples, and is also really appropriate to read as the New Year starts if one if your goals is improving your relationship.
