The Twin Cities Salvation Army is issuing an appeal to community members as it seeks volunteers to fortify its Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) team. In light of recent challenges and ongoing community needs, The Salvation Army is looking to expand its volunteer force to better respond to emergencies and crises in the Twin Cities area.
With a mission deeply rooted in serving those in need, the Twin Cities Salvation Army recognizes the critical importance of preparedness and response during times of crisis. From natural disasters to unforeseen emergencies, The Salvation Army’s EDS team plays a vital role in providing immediate assistance and support not only to individuals and families facing adversity, but also to first responders and disaster workers responding to a crisis.
“Volunteers are the lifeblood of The Salvation Army’s EDS efforts, embodying the spirit of compassion and service that defines our organization,” said Major Michele Heaver, Divisional Disaster Services Secretary for The Salvation Army’s Northern division, which includes Minnesota and North Dakota. “As the Twin Cities continue to navigate various challenges, we’re asking individuals with a passion for helping others to join our team and make a meaningful impact in our community.”
“This is a unique opportunity for people to serve survivors of disaster during some of their darkest hours,” said Dorothy Maples, Twin Cities EDS director. "Whether it's providing meals and beverages, offering emotional support, or assisting with shelter, our volunteers are instrumental in bringing hope and relief to those facing difficult circumstances."
Volunteers for the EDS program will receive the appropriate training and support to equip them with the knowledge to effectively respond to emergencies, and both virtual an in-person training options are available. From disaster preparedness to crisis intervention, volunteers will gain valuable experience while making a tangible difference in the lives of others.
The Twin Cities Salvation Army welcomes individuals from all backgrounds and walks of life to join its volunteer team. Whether retirees, students, professionals, or stay-at-home parents, there is a place for everyone to contribute and serve their community in times of need.
