Consumer Critique - Otomatone

As a musician (with a musical family), I love trying out new musical instruments. I've seen ads for an Otomatone before, and videos, and they always look like such happy instruments, so I was thrilled to have the chance to try one out for myself.

One tricky thing is that there aren't really keys - it's played by sliding your finger up and down, so it does take some practice if you want to actually play melodies. My piano students have loved messing around with it at the end of their lessons too! It's easy to make a happy-sounding melody, and it's really a cute, easy instrument. (And if you're someone who really needs to play certain pitches, it's easy to mark pitches on the side to make it more accurate).

Otomatones actually come in different sizes and editions - one has pre-set melodies that make it easy for anyone to play a melody and get used to the idea of rhythm. They even have a Kirby version!
