Great Smoky Mountains National Park

This stunning location easily secures the top position, being nearly 400k hashtags ahead of second place. John says, ‘This is little surprise given the beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains, which are famous the world over for their mysterious misty hills.’ This post shows the beauty of Cades Cove, an isolated valley in the park. Once home to early European settlers, it’s now the most popular destination for visitors.

Sequoia National Park

In second place is Sequoia National Park, which gained 9 times more hashtags than the forest in third position, showcasing how amazingly popular this destination is. Given that this awesome place hosts some of the world’s tallest trees, including the General Sherman, it’s no surprise this is such a legendary destination.

There are hundreds of thousands of acres of forested mountainous terrain to explore in the Sequoia National Park, and you can also encounter five different climate types, depending on the elevation to which you climb.

Olympic National Forest

An Instagram comment for this post says the forest is ‘hard to believe’, while another says, ‘Such cool looking trees!’ This neatly sums up the attraction of the amazing Olympic National Forest. John says, ‘The area is a must for hikers and explorers. Due to its huge size, the forest virtually surrounds the Olympic Mountain Range, offering hundreds of miles for dedicated hikers to traverse and explore.’

White Mountain National Forest

White Mountain National Forest is ideal if you want to visit somewhere that prioritizes animal welfare, and that provides outdoor activities all year long. You can view Wildcat Mountain, take autumn foliage tours, and even visit a winery.

Shawnee National Forest

If you look on Instagram, you’ll see that people love the waterfalls, wetlands, canyons, and ridges on offer in the Shawnee National Forest. John explains, ‘There are also opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, horseback riding, bicycling, and camping. If you love this forest, there are even job opportunities here.’

Other Forests To Consider

Further high-ranking locations that didn’t quite make the table include San Juan National Forest in Colorado and Deschutes National Forest in Oregon. Also, check out Dixie National Forest, Utah, and Superior National Forest, Minnesota.

John says, ‘These incredible forests are centers of biodiversity - hosting animals, fish, birds, plants, and trees. By visiting such places, you can contribute to their continuing care and preservation.’
