Caring Causes - Zakat Foundation of America Food Airdrops

On May 15-16th, 2024 Zakat Foundation of America, in collaboration with The Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF), successfully airdropped food packages to Palestinians stranded in Khan Yunis and Central Gaza. In addition to food staples, the packages included essentials such as rice.

Zakat Foundation of America, a leading charity organization, has long strived to create pathways for those suffering from war and its monumental ripple effect. According to Oxfam[1](2024) reports, there are currently 1.1 million Palestinians located in famine-stricken areas, which have been labeled as “catastrophic”. With relief aid being blocked or diverted in Gaza, the scarcest items include food, lifesaving medications, and clean drinking water.

Zakat Foundation of America remains committed to addressing food shortages worldwide. Since 2002, ZFA has been an active presence in regions ravaged by war and conflict. In Palestine, Zakat Foundation of America has provided emergency relief essentials, medical supplies, hygiene kits, and clothes in addition to blankets. Zakat Foundation of America has been on the grounds providing both long-term and short-term aid to the most vulnerable communities in Palestine.

The airdrop mission was part of an ongoing and larger effort to mitigate the growing hunger crisis in Gaza. “It is a well-known fact that children, women, and the elderly are suffering the most in this conflict. At ZFA, our aim is to reach these populations and serve them to the best of our ability. This is basic humanity at its core,” said Halil Demir, Zakat Foundation of America’s Executive Director.

Zakat Foundation of America strives to support recovery and development in all its forms, aligning with the UN’s 17 Goals for Sustainable Development. Zakat Foundation of America has been featured in the press including CNN Max, Fox News, WGN, ABC and NBC among others. Media including photos and videos are available on the organization’s website and social media. Additional media requests or interview requests can be submitted to lindsey.b@zakat.org
