Cool Crafts - What to Look for in a Sewing Machine

National Sewing Machine Day is June 13.

National Sewing Machine Day is a celebration of the incredible tools that transform fabric into art.

There is no better way to get started on crafting by picking your first sewing machine to get started, but there is a lot to know and it can be confusing.

When it comes to picking out a sewing machine for quilting, here are a few tips from Master Quilter and VP of Customer Success at Linda’s, Corey Pearson:

  1. Look for a large throat space: This makes it easier to handle large quilts.

  2. Check for a variety of stitch options: Different stitches can add unique touches to your quilt.

  3. Consider a machine with an extension table: This provides extra space to support your quilt as you work.

  4. Make sure it has a walking foot and ¼” foot: This helps feed the fabric evenly through the machine.

  5. Test the machine for smooth operation and easy threading: These features will save you time and frustration.

“National Sewing Machine Day on June 13 is such a wonderful celebration for all of us who love to sew. As a quilter, I can tell you that these machines are more than just tools—they’re our creative partners, helping us bring our visions to life with every stitch,” he says.
