Book Nook - Paws for Thought

A book that will be dipped into time and time again by those with a passion for dogs, their loyalty, energy and joie d’vivre, Paws for Thought enthrals with debut author Elaine Jacques’ short story collection.

With her beloved border collie, Monty, taking on the role of both narrator and protagonist, this charming anthology chronicles Monty’s journey from canine adolescence to adulthood, his adventures, new friendships formed and a whole host of unforgettable experiences that kept his tail wagging.

Starting life as the runt of the litter, and described by Elaine as a ‘little odd, piglet looking puppy’ the happiness that Monty brings to his besotted owner jumps from each and every page. Also setting Elaine on the unexpected path to becoming a published and successful author, Paws for Thought confirms why dogs really are man’s best friend.

Synopsis:

Paws for thought is an exploration of life seen through the eyes of (wo)man's best friend. Via a collection of short stories we experience emotions ranging from humour, loss and love as well as the boundless energy of a soul thoroughly content with his lot in life.

The author says:

“I wasn’t the brightest as a child and struggled with reading and writing.

“My English teacher took the time to give me some one-to-one tuition after class and had me read William

Shakespeare’s Sonnet 29: When, in Disgrace with Fortune and Men’s Eyes.

“We would read each line, think about the meaning and discuss it before moving to the next line. I loved that poem and is what gave me the confidence and passion for reading and writing.

“But, following the encouraging reception of my debut book, I am currently contemplating a sequel to Paws for Thought.”

About the author

Elaine Jacques was born in Winchester, Hampshire, but spent most of her younger years in Spain before returning to Winchester, aged 18, where she went to college to study English and then to university.

She says: “I have travelled and lived all over the UK and have been lucky enough to travel quite a lot of the world, as well as volunteer in animal conservation projects in the African bush.

“I am a passionate animal lover who is mesmerised and intrigued by what goes on in their world and minds. My love for animals - both large or small – and my great affection for Monty, my faithful companion has enabled me to write a lovely joyful book about a very special soul for which I am most grateful.”
