Movie MInute - Grow

The family film Grow, starring Golda Rosheuvel (Bridgerton; Dune) and Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz, How to Train Your Dragon) is currently at the 2024 American Film Market (AFM) in Las Vegas through November 10 after SC Films International boarded global sales rights. Set to be released in 2025, the film is produced by Double Nickel Entertainment (The Burial, Gran Torino) in association with Sky and Orogen Entertainment.

The film, directed by John McPhail (Anna and the Apocalypse), tells the story of Dinah Little, a no-nonsense, curmudgeonly farmer, and Charlie, the unloved niece who Dinah begrudgingly takes in after discovering her in an orphanage. Dinah's farm is in the self-proclaimed "Pumpkin Capital of the World" where the biggest event of the year is a high-stakes, cutthroat giant-pumpkin-growing contest with an enormous cash prize. Charlie, who has a special bond with plants, decides to enter the competition where she and the other pumpkin growers face sabotage and a genetically engineered rival. As she nurtures her pumpkin ‘Peter’ and watches him grow, so does a bond between Dinah and Charlie.

“I fell in love with this project at the script stage so I am delighted to join for world sales. Grow is a funny and uplifting film for all the family” said Simon Crowe, SC Films’s CEO & Founder.

Adam RichmanJenette Kahn, and Joe Capotorto, Producers for Double Nickel Entertainment, added: “We are thrilled to have SC Films join our incredible team on Grow which is sure to become an instant fall classic.  Simon knows the family space inside and out and we could not ask for a better partner.”

Grow will be released in theaters globally and on Sky Cinema in the UK and Ireland in 2025.

About Double Nickel Entertainment

Jenette Kahn and Adam Richman are partners at Double Nickel Entertainment in NYC. They optioned Gran Torino from the writer Nick Schenk when he wasn’t yet represented, developed it with him, and are producers on the movie. Of all Clint Eastwood’s films, it is second commercially only to American Sniper, grossing $270,000,000 worldwide theatrically.

The Company is currently represented by Maggie Bett’s acclaimed The Burial at Amazon starring Jamie Foxx and Tommy Lee Jones. After a Gala Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, the film was released in the fall of 2023 in theatres followed by an Amazon Prime Global roll-out.  It is a critical smash at 94% on Rotten Tomatoes with Top Critics. The Burial has far surpassed Amazon’s viewership projections, becoming one of the most watched releases ever on Prime for an original film.

In partnership with That’s Wonderful Productions, Double Nickel produced A Kid Like Jake starring Claire Danes, Jim Parsons and Octavia Spencer. The film premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and was one of a handful of films that sold. IFC released Jake in June of 2018 to critical acclaim.

Prior to A Kid Like Jake, their most recent release was The Book of Henry that Colin Trevorrow directed after Jurassic World. Naomi Watts and IT star Jaeden Martell lead the cast alongside Jacob Tremblay.

In addition to other projects, the Company's movie prior to Henry was the critically-acclaimed La Chispa de la Vida that they shot in Spanish in Spain. It premiered at Tribeca and received a great review from Neil Genzlinger in The New York Times. Playlist called it “the jewel of the festival” and both stars of the film were nominated for Goyas.   Double Nickel is currently developing a Hindi version of the film.

In television, Jenette and Adam are under a non-exclusive episodic deal with Sky Studios that enables them to option and develop IP for TV.  Through this deal, they have sold shows to Apple, Peacock and Quibi. Double Nickel has also sold series to Warner Bros. Television.

Grow is their first film with Sky.
