To coincide with Bob Marley’s 80th birthday, Young Voices in conjunction with The Bob & Rita Marley Foundation will stage a worldwide singalong from the Co-op Live arena in Manchester, England at 3:00 pm GMT on Thursday, February 6, 2025.
Students from all over the world will sing a specially designed Bob Marley Medley in a massive singalong featuring the following Bob Marley classics: “One Love, “ “Jammin’,” “Three Little Birds, “ “Get Up Stand Up,” “Could You Be Loved,” and “Redemption Song.”
The livestreamed singalong will feature an 8,000 strong Young Voices student choir live from Manchester’s brand-new Co-op Live, along with hundreds of thousands of students participating around the world
In preparation for the celebration, students across the globe will learn about Bob Marley's legacy while singing the Young Voices Bob Marley medley in their schools using sheet music, audio and dance tutorial resources provided by Young Voices and Hal Leonard. Over 200,000 children from Young Voices UK and Young Voices USA alone will be taking part in the event which is open to all.
Cedella Marley (Bob Marley’s daughter), said “I know daddy (my father) would have a huge smile on his face and be so proud to know that his words of freedom, love and unity would be sung by so many beautiful young souls around the world over 50 years after he wrote them. It’s a huge testament to the power of his music that his songs resonate stronger than ever and with each new generation. My father’s songs speak universal truths and that is why they sound as convincing coming out of the mouths of children as they did when he himself recorded and performed them.”
Young Voices is the largest music and choir education program in the world, servicing over 250,000 students annually. Ben Lewis, Young Voices CEO said, “To be able to introduce a whole new generation to the music of Bob Marley is an honour. The fact we are 60 years on from the release of One Love & yet it means as much now as it did then, just shows the timeless nature of his message.”
Children, teachers, and parents across the planet are invited to join the Young Voices and Bob Marley Foundation’s 80th Birthday Celebration Singalong by accessing the free sheet music, audio and dance tutorial resources here https://www.youngvoices.co.uk/ join-young-voices-worldwide- singalong and joining the live stream at 3:00pm GMT/10:00am EST on February 6, 2025.
