We've never tried absinthe before, but my husband has always been intrigued, so we were delighted to have the chance to review Absente Absinthe.
Born from the historic distilleries of Provence, Absente Absinthe carries the torch of authenticity lit by the artisans of yore. The distillery, established over a century ago, embraces the legacy of absinthe with a contemporary flair. Every bottle of Absente is crafted using traditional wormwood, anise, and a secret blend of botanicals that conjure bold and intricate flavor.
We got to try two different flavors: Absente Absinthe and Grande Absente Absinthe. The "irst version is designed to appeal to both connoisseurs and those who are trying absinthe for the first time. As someone who doesn't really like anise, I was pleasantly surprised that I could tolerate this spirit (I normally don't like most stronger unflavored alcohols and stick to creme liqueurs). My husband, who likes anise flavor, really enjoyed it. It was a new flavor, but one that he savored while sitting in front of the fire. He enjoyed it with or without sugar; I strongly preferred it with sugar. The Grande version is a more traditional, stronger alcohol with a stronger flavor. Although I wasn't a huge fan of drinking it straight, my husband says he'll have no problem finishing the bottle.
Pouring absinthe correctly is a time-honored ritual that transforms the potent spirit into a milky, aromatic elixir. Begin by placing a sugar cube on a slotted absinthe spoon, which rests atop a glass filled with a shot of absinthe. Slowly drizzle cold water over the sugar, allowing it to dissolve gradually, releasing its sweetness into the drink. As the water mixes with the absinthe, the liquid turns a beautiful opalescent green, known as the "louche" effect. This careful process not only enhances the flavor but also creates a sensory experience, highlighting the herbal complexities of the absinthe while inviting contemplation and enjoyment.
