Book Nook - Scroll the Troll

With nearly a quarter of five- to seven-year-old children in the UK owning a Smartphone according to recent Ofcom research*, Mark Laskey’s entertaining but message-laden new children’s book couldn’t be more relevant or timely.

Sharing a story that finds the village of Agoo triumphing over its menacing troll, this debut author leaves his young readers spellbound. More importantly, however, his narrative highlights some of the darker forces of today’s digital space, illustrated by the emotional toll taken on Agoo’s once-happy inhabitants.

Emphasising that Agoo’s mantra of treating others as you would expect to be treated yourself and that happiness wins the day are both good maxims to embrace, Scroll the Troll is not only ticking all the boxes with its intended audience, but is receiving five-star praise from parents, grandparents and more.

Synopsis

The story puts a modern day twist on the type of 'troll' we are too familiar with in today's digital world.

A cowardly modern day troll is terrorising and upsetting the locals in a small village of Agoo and what is worse for the villagers is they don't know who. Will a new arrival and her loving Dog help save Agoo?

The author says:

“Children are ever increasingly being introduced to technology and I wanted to try help highlight a very important and serious topic but deliver it in a way that can connect with a younger audience. This in turn could help create positive conversations between the reader and the children.”

Published by P&F Publishing, Scroll the Troll is available to purchase in paperback on Amazon at https://tinyurl.com/2zs3du56 and The Great British Bookshop at https://tinyurl.com/d8ea6zxy

About the author:

Mark Laskey is 35 years old, married with two young children; Poppy aged 3 and Finley aged 19 months.

He says: “Having children gave me the inspiration to create a children's book. It's not something I ever thought I could achieve, and it certainly came as a shock to friends and family.

“Writing children's books is a million miles away from my day job as a landscape gardener, however I find it my escapism from the struggles of everyday life.

“I create these stories just on my mobile when I'm walking Jack my dog at typically 4:30am so I can be back in time before the children wake up.

“However, I never thought these stories would go any further then just reading them to my children at bedtime, but my wife pushed me to bring a story to life and after sourcing an illustrator (Steve Evans), we created Scroll the Troll, which my wife, Amy and dog, Jack feature in to the excitement of my children. “
