Enriching Education - Numeracy

At the 2025 Bett UK, EvidenceB, the French startup behind the first adaptive learning tool based on cognitive sciences and powered by artificial intelligence (AITP artificial intelligent tutoring platform)launches Numeracy in the UK and the US. Its aim is to empower teachers to better support students in math, from primary to secondary educationBy combining scientific pedagogy with advanced technologies, Numeracy offers a comprehensive tailormade solution to help students overcome challenges while supporting teachers in their daily work. As the flagship solution adopted by the French Ministry of Education, EvidenceB is headquartered in Paris, France, and operates internationally, including in the UK. EvidenceB was the first French EdTech company incubated through UCL’s EDUCATE program and is a member of the BESA Launchpad Programme. It is also a BETT Awards London 2024 winner in 3 categories[1].

Numeracy: making math engaging for both students and teachers

Numeracy is a groundbreaking platform that harnesses the power of AI and cognitive sciences to offer an extensive array of tools for enriching and customizing student learningfrom primary to secondary education, regardless of their level or learning pace. Following an initial diagnostic test, the platform tailors exercises to the specific needs of each studentBoosted by EvidenceB’s personalisation algorithms, it then continuously adapts their exercise pathways, keeping them consistently engaged at the optimal level of challenge. Its learning interfaces are designed with cognitive researchers to stimulate learning of core concepts, awaken student's intrinsic motivation and avoid cognitive overloadThe platform offers clear guidance on module tasks and activities, allowing students to navigate effortlessly. In addition, self-correcting exercises with explicit feedback help them understand errors and develop strategies to find the correct solution. Providing a comprehensive, personalized approach to teaching mathematicsNumeracy also offers extensive support for teachers including dashboards that provide useful learning analytics about class and individual progression, in addition to data about groups of students with similar learning characteristics.

…Thanks to a tailormade solution that covers all areas of maths…

Numeracy focuses on three areas: calculation, geometry, and fractions. It is meticulously designed to align seamlessly with the intricate web of math standards, both in the UK (Curriculum in English) and in the USA (Curriculum in English and Spanish). It combines two of EvidenceB’s flagship solutions, Adaptiv’Math and Adaptiv’Fraction which offer complementary solutions to strengthen math skills at the elementary level. Adaptiv’Math, with over 8,000 self-correcting exercises, personalizes learning paths to build “number sense,” improve problem-solving, and deepen understanding of quantities, units, and operations. Adaptiv’Fraction focuses on proportionality, helping students connect fractions, decimals, percentages, and probabilities through hands-on manipulation and comparison. Together, these tools leverage cognitive science to address gaps in foundational math skills and provide tailored support for diverse learning needs.

….While restoring students’ confidence, especially among girls

In France, where the solution was adopted as the new AI tool for the Ministry of Education, EvidenceB recently published impact data from its Adaptiv’Math module. This data demonstrates that a personalized, cognitive science-based approach can effectively prevent school dropout and restore students’ confidence—particularly for girls. Specificallythe 2023 study involving 10,000 French students in Cycle 2 showed that 15% of students initially struggling in math progressed significantly thanks to its adaptive approach, which personalizes exercises based on each learner’s needs. The platform also reduced disparities, with lower-performing students achieving slightly higher progress rates than others. Between 2023 and 2024, students succeeded in 70–80% of exercises, boosting their confidence and motivation. Crucially, girls, often more affected by math anxiety, regained self-assurance through tailored support. By leveraging cognitive science, Adaptiv’Math ensures accessible yet challenging exercises, preventing dropout, promoting equity, and transforming students’ relationship with math.

A platform available as a white label

EvidenceB has developed a state-of-the-art Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS) that integrates AI and cognitive science to revolutionize adaptive learning. This platform is available in a Software as a Service (SaaS) mode, effectively addressing learning challenges in K12, Higher Education, and professional training. Rooted in CS and powered by award-winning AI, our curriculum-agnostic designs are tailored to specific educational programs. Evidence-based gameplays and data-driven AI engine foster deep understanding of core concepts, even among low-performing students. Teachers benefit from analytical dashboards that empower them to make pedagogical differentiation decisions in their classrooms. This ITS has allowed to develop applications in numeracy (Adaptiv’Math) and literacy (Adaptiv’Language) for K-12 markets. The 2 numeracy and literacy pillars offer more than 40 000 exercises all evidence based with our curriculum-agnostic approach based on cognitive research.

What does EvidenceB rely on?

The adaptative learning resources designed by EvidenceB are based on the synergy of 3 innovations:

-          Cognitive Sciences: To stimulate each student's learning process, based on recent research on how the brain learns, targeting difficulties and helping them to progress towards the mastery of core knowledge

-          Artificial Intelligence: Designed with the laboratories of INRIA and the University of Sorbonne, to personalise the student's learning path and provide data to the teacher to reinforce the implementation of a differentiated pedagogy. Adaptiv’Math’s adaptive approach ensures that students are consistently engaged at the optimal level of challenge, creating a dynamic and tailored learning environment

-          Interfaces & UX: Adaptiv’Math’s user-centric approach creates a seamless and intuitive student experience.
