World Wisdom - Planet- Saving Tips from Salty Joe

Ahoy Little Mateys!

I be Salty Joe, the friendliest pirate sailing the seven seas! I captain a crew of eight mini pirates who I'm teaching to explore wonderful faraway lands.

But I also teach my crew something very important - protecting our precious planet! With just a few simple steps, kids and parents can help keep our oceans clean and our Earth happy.

This Week's Planet-Saving Treasure Map:

Choose reusable water bottles instead of single-use plastic ones!

Why is this important, me hearties?

Plastic causes BIG problems for our ocean friends! When plastic breaks into tiny pieces called microplastics, little fish might mistake them for food. Then bigger fish eat those little fish, and the plastic travels all the way up to our dinner plates! Arrrr, that's not good for anyone's tummy - fish, pirate, or parent!

Would you believe plastic can take ONE HUNDRED YEARS to disappear? That's many more years than the oldest pirate has lived (except for Salty, as I'm four hundred years old!) While the plastic sits around, it can hurt curious sea creatures who think it might be something yummy to eat. Poor ocean friends!

The Tale of the Troubled Dolphin

In me little book "Salty Joe and the Sea Mysteries," me brave pirate Minihook discovers a dolphin in terrible trouble! The poor creature has a plastic ring stuck around its snout so it can't eat! All because someone tossed a plastic bottle into the ocean without thinking.

Can Minihook save the day? You'll have to join our magical piratey adventure to find out!

Five Shocking Plastic Facts for Little Pirates:
  1. Every minute, a whole garbage truck full of plastic is dumped into our oceans!
  2. Plastic straws can take 200 years to break down - that's older than many great-great-grandpirates!
  3. Sea turtles often mistake plastic bags for jellyfish and try to eat them.
  4. Americans use 500 MILLION plastic straws every single day!
  5. By 2050, there could be more plastic in the ocean than fish if we don't change our ways. Time is running out!

Five Friendly Facts About Dolphins:

  1. Dolphins are super smart! They can recognize themselves in mirrors and even have names for each other.
  2. Baby dolphins are called calves, and they drink milk from their mothers just like human babies.
  3. Dolphins sleep with one eye open so they can watch for danger and remember to swim to the surface to breathe.
  4. Dolphins can swim as fast as 20 miles per hour - faster than a pirate ship in a storm!
  5. Dolphins are very social and love to play - they even surf waves for fun
Moms: If you and your little pirates want to learn more about protecting our ocean treasures, find "Salty Joe and the Sea Mysteries" on Amazon Prime. It's filled with exciting escapades and simple ways your family can help save our beautiful blue planet! It also teaches important values, such as kindness, tolerance and compassion.

Remember: Every pirate protects their treasure, and Earth is our greatest treasure of all!

So Set Sail with Salty Joe and his entertaining crew,  for some entertaining and educational adventures.
