Fun Freetime - Captain Sandy’s Spring Boating Tips for Old Salts and Newbies

Spring is here, and for me, it’s the best time to be on the water. Sure, it’s always boating season in Florida, but after a little downtime during the cooler months, spring calls me back to the sea. The air is crisp, the water’s inviting, and there’s an energy to the season that makes boating feel like a new adventure every time. Whether you’re gearing up to hit the water for the first time this year or just looking for a few spring boating tips, a new boating season is all about renewal.

To help make your spring boating adventures better, I’m going to share my favorite activities, preparation tips, and advice for making the most of this fantastic season.

Why Spring on the Water Is Special

Spring boating always feels like the first day of school. The weather’s warming up, everyone’s excited, and it’s that perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. Unlike the intense summer heat or the chill of winter, spring offers two unbeatable factors: comfortable temperatures and calm seas.

The vibe of spring on the water is all about new beginnings. For some, it’s about discovering new spots. For others, it’s about spending quality time with loved ones. Or both. No matter the reason, spring is a season for making memories and enjoying the open water.

My Favorite Springtime Boating Activities

I have a few personal favorites activities that I recommend for anyone looking to make the most of the boating season.

Waterskiing

Waterskiing is my absolute favorite spring activity. There’s nothing like that rush of adrenaline as you skim across the water. If I’m not waterskiing, I’m probably Scuba diving—a great way to explore the underwater world.

But don’t forget boaters have a lot of options for water-based activities.

Socializing with Friends and Family

Spring on the water is all about good company. I love taking my family and friends out for a day on the boat. It’s not just about the activity but also the social experience. Could be a leisurely cruise or a barbecue at anchor. Spring is the perfect time to catch up and enjoy being together.

Sunset Cruises

Sunset cruises are always magical, but there’s something special about spring evenings on the water. As the sun sets and the sky turns brilliant colors, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the day and enjoy the beauty of nature.
