A new report shedding light on rising utility costs found that 54% of Americans are ‘overwhelmed’ by their monthly utility bills, which cost an average $473 monthly.
77% say their electric bills have gone up the most this year, with an average cost of $232:
- 28% have missed at least 1 payment in the last year
- Average rate increase: 11%
- 61% don’t understand why their electric bills keep increasing
- 42% are worried about affording electricity this summer
To cut costs, 64% are using fewer lights, followed by 46% switching to LED bulbs, and 44% utilizing their HVAC systems less. A further 17% are also taking the sustainable approach of installing solar panels.
