Synopsis:
Understanding Anxiety with Wilhelmina the Glow-worm is a heartfelt children's story centred around Wilhelmina, a glow-worm living in Creatures Cottage, a home for older animals. This book gently introduces young readers to the topic of anxiety, its impact, and practical ways to manage it, making it both a delightful and educational read.
Understanding Anxiety tells the story of Wilhelmina, or "Mina" as her friends call her, a ninety-three-year-old Glow-Worm who resides in Creatures Cottage, a care home for animals who need a bit more support. Mina has always struggled with worries, but with the help of her friends and the caring staff at the cottage, she learns valuable techniques to handle her anxiety. This beautifully illustrated book not only tells a charming story but also subtly educates children about understanding and coping with their own emotions. A perfect book for children dealing with feelings of anxiety, and a useful resource for parents and educators who want to open up conversations about mental health.
The author says:
“I believe it is very important to talk about disabilities especially at a young age as it helps children understand and accept other people for being different and to help them understand that its ok to be different. Having a disability shouldn't define who you are. Everyone is unique and different. Having a disability myself makes writing this book a huge achievement, of which I’m very proud.”
