Music Minute - Rolie Polie Guacamole: Unplug the World

Holy Guacamole! Brooklyn’s award-winning titans of kindie music, Rolie Polie Guacamole, are at it again! “Unplug the World,” the third single off their upcoming album Rockamole, is out now!

Recorded at the late Steve Albini’s famed studio, Electrical Audio, in Chicago, on the same tape machine used to make Nirvana’s In Utero, “Unplug the World” is likely the only children’s song of its kind, a tale of making the most of a power outage!

“Without screen time, people are emboldened to pursue their passions of art, music, storytelling, gardening, sports, and architecture, and to dream,’” says Frank Gallo. “That was our inspiration for ‘Unplug the World.’ We also included a subtle nod to Steve Albini’s band, Shellac, in the song’s lyrics. ‘March to the beat, hand over hand’ is a reference to Dude Incredible, one of my favorite albums.”

“At Electrical Audio, we’ve always taken comfort in knowing we’d be using some of the same equipment that bands like Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, and the Pixies used,” adds Andrew Tuzhilin. “Recording at Electrical Audio ensured that, while still being a family-friendly song, “Unplug the World” would also rock extra hard.”

Frank Gallo and Andrew Tuzhilin created Rolie Polie Guacamole in 2006 and since then have earned a reputation as one of the hardest-working bands in family music. With skills honed by nearly 20 years of working directly with kids, Rolie Polie Guacamole knows what families want. Their kid-smart, parent-friendly style dresses up original tunes with vibrant harmonies and deft instrumental layers, pushing the parameters of what kindie can be.

Rockamole will be released in September 2025.
