Book Nook - Gertie The Campervan

This quietly captivating children’s picture book is making its way to bookshelves and bedtime routines alike. Through Kirsty Smith’s story of Gertie an old campervan brought to life through imagination and memory, children are immersed in a celebration of the simple joys of being together.

Brimming with stories shared under the forest’s skies, and of the kind of adventures that leave a lasting impression, Gertie may have been written for young readers (from baby to ten) but it is full of quiet nods that older readers will appreciate – from the magic of family road trips, the benefits of a slower pace of life and the joy of spending time seeing the world, once again, through the eyes of a child.

Visually, Gertie the Campervan is equally as engaging as its narrative, thanks to the illustrations of Tamar Tsikaridze, who brings both the village and the forest to life with a light touch that complements the author’s literary tone.

With Kirsty Smith’s blending of heart, imagination, and gentle humour, Gertie the Campervan is set to find a place on the shelves — and in the hearts — of families who value stories that celebrate connection, curiosity, and the wonder of shared moments.
