Book Nook - Emily's Adventure

For readers aged 13 to 18, Emily’s Adventure offers something rare in the world of young adult fiction: a supernatural thriller that’s as emotionally grounded as it is wildly imaginative. With the intensity of psychic awakenings, the danger of hidden enemies, and the rawness of personal loss, this novel pulls readers into a haunting yet hopeful story they won’t forget.

Sharing the story of the powerful psychic abilities Emily began to experience following the death of her father, David Swan’s narrative tackles tough subjects including grief, anxiety, and mental illness with sensitivity and depth, whilst highlighting that healing often comes in unexpected ways. And while the themes are intense, humour, warmth, and friendship are woven throughout the novel to ensure that readers are never left in the dark for too long.

With a high stakes plot, this protagonist must decide not just who she wants to be, but whether she’s willing to fight for a future that could change everything.

Blending spiritual mystery with real-world emotion in a way that speaks powerfully to today’s teens, this novel is for anyone who’s ever felt lost, broken, or unsure of their path, and who dares to believe that even in the darkest moments, a greater purpose might be waiting.

Synopsis:

Emily's Adventure is a paranormal thriller about a young girl who develops psychic powers after her father passes away.

The story deals with grief and mental illness with the help of spiritual friends.

The subjects are tough, but her friends are funny with Boo the white puma angel and Crow as a guardian.

As her powers and destiny unfold evil people appear as old-world industrialists. But will the industrialists kill her before she makes it?

Emily's Adventure deals with grief, mental illness, and finding your destiny.

The author says:

The book was written for my daughter, but I also experienced phases of psychosis myself and channelled the experiences of grief and mental health into the book. As I reflect back on that time while I or anyone I know did not go through cancer, my father passed away, and again I am channelling my experiences of grief into the book.

About the Author:

David Swan says:  “I attended university at the age of 42, a first-generation working-class hero.  I studied creative writing and that is where my writing story began.  I have been writing and travelling for 10 years but whilst at university two people I loved passed away.

“Following this I started to experience phases of psychosis, which I have now recovered from, and I have channelled my mental health experiences into the this first book, and subsequent blog.

“I hope people enjoy Emily’s Adventure and her story helps readers understand grief and mental health a little more, whilst showing that even when things feel really hard, you can still grow, heal and achieve."
