House & Home - 2025's Best Cities for Rain Gardens

Rain gardens are gaining ground (literally).

As stormwater runoff worsens and butterflies disappear, cities across the U.S. are rethinking how they manage their landscapes.

Lawn Love analyzed the 500 largest U.S. cities to rank 2025’s Best Cities for Rain Gardens using 4 metrics. We looked at average monthly precipitation, supply access, public interest, and groundwater pollution risk.

Quick stats:

  • 🏙️ 50% of the top 50 cities are in Florida, with just 3 of the 50 largest U.S. population centers cracking the top 25: Miami, Atlanta, and Seattle.

  • 🌧️ 53% of cities average 3+ inches of rain per month, and only 8% average less than 1 inch.

  • 🔍 Ann Arbor, Michigan (No. 6), Minneapolis (No. 26), and Atlanta (No. 4) show the highest Google search interest for rain gardens nationwide.
