Travel Tidbits - Hidden Cameras

As vacation rentals promise more privacy than hotels, a growing number of guests are finding the opposite. A new report from IPX1031 finds 47% of Americans have found a camera at a vacation rental property – up from 25% in our 2023 study.

Although Airbnb’s indoor camera ban went into effect in April 2024, 75% of those who have found a camera, found one in the last year, and 59% are worried about hidden cameras in rental homes.

  • 1 in 5 found a camera in a bedroom, bathroom, or other private area
  • 64% of guests don’t know how to check for hidden cameras
  • 27% are more likely to bend the rules as a guest due to Airbnb’s indoor camera ban

The top ways guests are bending the rules include skimping on cleaning and inviting extra guests.

Take a look at the full report for more insights (including how many hosts admit to keeping cameras despite the ban!)
