I recently had a chance to see a copy of The Self-Regulation Handbook for Teens and Young Adults. This trauma-informed guide is targeted towards students at the end of high school and beginning of college (15-21), in the middle of the transition towards independence, but could also be successfully used by people a little bit outside of that age range.
The book has a very user-friendly format. Each section is a blend of information, exercises, and opportunities for self-reflection. While the handbook covers a lot of topics well, it's not overwhelming. It touches on mental health topics, interpersonal challenges, and external factors as well. It reflects modern issues in society, gives names to challenges, and sensitively handles difficult topics. It also has a lot of practical strategies from different types of therapy backgrounds, including cognitive-behavioral.
My kids went through the book as well. One is autistic, the other has ADHD, and both of them found that it was written in a way that resonated with them, was useful, and easy to understand. It also gave them both some tips for when they're getting overwhelmed emotionally. This can be a great resource for the young adult in your life - and if you have kids in other ages, check out the books below!
