Smart Safety - Getting to the MN State Fair

One of Minnesota’s most anticipated events of the year, the Minnesota State Fair, is finally here. The widely beloved and nationally recognized fair runs from August 21—September 1 this year and over 1.9 million visitors attended the fair in 2024.

AAA encourages guests to find a safe ride to and from so they can enjoy all the fair has to offer without worry. Approximately 50% of fair guests arrived by some type of public, charter, or mass transit bus operation in previous years.

AAA at the Fair

AAA will be at the Minnesota State Fair from August 21-26 near the Kidway at Wright Avenue and Underwood Street to engage with fairgoers on Crashes Hit Different, AAA’s newest traffic safety campaign, encouraging people to share how crashes have impacted them and their communities.

“Every 12 minutes, a crash occurs on our nation’s roads, many of them being entirely preventable, and we want to hear stories from Minnesotans to help further our work to reduce crashes in the U.S.”, said Brynna Knapp, spokesperson for AAA.

Get to the fair safely

By utilizing one of the Minnesota State Fair’s considerable transportation options, Minnesotans can help manage congestion, keep other drivers safe, and reduce the Fair’s environmental impact. “Planning your ride ahead of time can help you enjoy your time fully and keep others safe on the road. If you’re planning to drink at the fair, plan on finding a safe ride home”, said Knapp.

Local transit options: Metro Transit, Metro Valley Transit Authority, Southwest Transit

This affordable and quick option allows you to utilize express bus services for $5-$6 round-trip. This option allows you to grab a bus further from the fairgrounds in multiple locations throughout the greater Twin-Cities. To plan your trip, review the express bus options here.
