Caring Causes - Brazosport Rotary Club Members Collect and Donate Socks for Back to School

The members of the Brazosport Rotary Club proudly collected and donated 1,470 pairs of new socks to the Brazoria County Dream Center for the ‘Back to School Bash,’ held on August 2, 2025. This community event supported more than 1,200 students with essential back-to-school items, including backpacks filled with school supplies, hygiene kits, tennis shoes, and now, new socks.

Why Socks?

Socks are a basic clothing item that many people may take for granted. For children from low-income families, having new, clean socks can significantly enhance their comfort and hygiene. There is also a psychological benefit for children as the school year begins. "Many children feel more confident and comfortable when they wear new clothes," said Vernor, a former elementary school teacher. "New socks can contribute to a positive self-image, especially in a school environment where visual impressions impact social interactions.” Donating new socks not only meets a practical need but also supports students' well-being and promotes a caring community spirit, a value that the members of the Brazosport Rotary Club embody every day.

“This donation means more students will be able to start the school year prepared and more confident,” said Brazosport Rotary Club president Lisa Vernor. “Together, we're working to build hope right here in Brazoria County.” The Brazosport Rotary Club collaborates with various charities and non-profit organizations across Brazosport and southern Brazoria County. Donating new, never-worn socks to elementary school students is a meaningful initiative with numerous benefits.

A History of Caring

For over 70 years, the Brazosport Rotary Club has helped provide support to charitable causes in Brazosport. The club’s annual Shrimp Boil (coming up on October 4, 2025) is its only annual fundraiser. While the members of the Brazosport Rotary Club donated all the socks for the Dream Center on their own, numerous other causes benefit from the club’s efforts, thanks to the Shrimp Boil.
