Alexander Maclaren was a Scottish pastor in Manchester from 1858-1903. He has been called the "Prince of Expositers" and one of the best preachers of the 19th century. His works have a timeless quality to them, providing both relevant and fresh insights, beautifully expressed.
The study notes are drawn from hundreds of sermons, with clear introductions for each book. My favorite features are the short notes that provide relevance to daily life, despite coming from over a hundred years ago.
