Fun Freetime - Do Influencers Have Influence?

Influencers are everywhere, but trust is shifting. A new survey of 1,000+ U.S. adults finds that while 76% follow influencers and half have bought something they recommended in 2025, only 17% trust them most for product advice. Most consumers turn to crowdsourcing (63%) or AI tools (20%) instead.

Other key findings:
  • The average consumer influenced by social content has spent $372 so far this year.
  • One in five say an influencer changed their mind on a social issue.
  • 60% of influencer followers are more likely to remember influencer recommended brands than traditional ads
There is a dark side: nearly 30% believe they have a unique personal relationship with influencers, in which the influencers are speaking directly to them. Another 15% believe that influencers genuinely use all the products they promote.

The data points to a deeper shift in how people make decisions online, blending peer input, algorithms, and creator content.
