Parenting Pointers - Best States for Children

 With only 9% of the federal budget going toward kids, the non-profit organization SmileHub today released new reports on the Best Charities for Children and the Best States for Children in 2025.

To highlight the best states for children and the ones that need to improve the most, SmileHub compared each of the 50 states based on 27 key metrics. The data set ranges from the number of children’s charities per capita to the child food-insecurity rate to the child well-being index ranking.

Support for Children in Connecticut (1=Best, 25=Avg.):

• Overall Rank: 9th
• 6th – Life Expectancy at Birth
• 8th – Child Well-Being Index Rank
• 11th – Public High School Graduation Rate
• 23rd – State Spending per Child Enrolled in Preschool
• 27th – Share of Children Aged 0 to 17 Who Live in a Supportive Neighborhood
