Terrific Tech - Improvement in Fiber

A new study has revealed that Nevada has America’s most improved internet infrastructure.

QR Code Generator analyzed FCC broadband internet connectivity data from 2022 to 2024 to see which areas in America have improved their internet infrastructure the most. Areas were ranked by the increase in the percentage of homes covered by superfast fiber connections with 1,000 Mbps download and 100 Mbps upload speeds.

Nevada has the most improved internet infrastructure in America, with a 77.13 percentage point increase in the percentage of homes covered by superfast fiber connections in the state. This increase is over four times higher than the national average increase of 13.16 percentage points.

In 2022, just 7.58% of homes had access to a superfast fiber connection. In 2024, this had increased to 84.71%, which was the third-highest percentage of homes covered by superfast fiber nationally. As of 2024, 1.13 million more homes now have access to superfast fiber in Nevada.

Nevada’s largest metro area, Las Vegas, recorded the largest increase in superfast fiber connectivity of all large metro areas in the study (those with at least 500,000 residential units). The percentage of homes in the Las Vegas metro area increased by 85 percentage points between 2022 and 2024, with 86.77% of homes now having access to superfast connections.

Maryland has the second-most-improved internet infrastructure in the country. Since 2022, superfast fiber connectivity has increased by 62.85 percentage points, 49.68 above the national average percentage point increase. In December 2022, only 2.95% of homes were served by superfast fiber connections, which increased to 65.8% in December 2024. 1.75 million more homes had access to superfast fiber in 2024 compared to 2022 in Maryland.

Arizona ranks third for the increase in superfast fiber internet connectivity. The percentage of homes with access to a superfast fiber connection increased by 58.62 percentage points from 3.32% in 2022 to 61.94% in 2024. This was 45.45 percentage points above the national average. When compared to 2022, 2.11 million more Arizonan homes had access to superfast fiber connections in 2024.

Colorado has the fourth-most-improved internet infrastructure nationwide. In 2022, 11.25% of households had access to a superfast fiber connection, which rose to 64.11% in 2024. This is an increase of 52.86 percentage points and is 39.7 percentage points more than the national average increase of 13.16 percentage points. 1.56 million more homes in Colorado had access to superfast fiber connections by 2024 compared to 2022.

Delaware is fifth among the states with the most improved internet infrastructure. Delaware had the worst superfast fiber connectivity in America in 2022, with just 0.28% of homes having access to superfast fiber. By 2024, this had increased by 49.26 percentage points to 49.54%. This increase is 36.1 percentage points above the national average. 263,002 more homes in Delaware had access to superfast fiber by 2024.

New Jersey has the sixth-most-improved internet infrastructure, with a 46.78 percentage point increase in homes with superfast fiber connectivity, 33.61 above the national average. In 2022, 19.35% of homes had superfast fiber internet, increasing to 66.13% by December 2024, resulting in an additional 2.01 million homes gaining access to superfast fiber.

Massachusetts ranks seventh for the most improved superfast fiber connectivity. In 2022, only 2.61% of homes had access to superfast fiber, which increased to 47.27% in 2024. This increase of 44.66 percentage points is 31.49 above the national average increase of 13.16. By 2024, 1.52 million more homes had access to superfast fiber connections in the Bay State compared to 2022.

Pennsylvania has the eighth-most-mproved internet infrastructure in America, with a 44.64 percentage point increase in the rate of homes served by a superfast fiber connection, 31.47 percentage points better than the national average. In 2022, 9.87% of homes in the Keystone State had access to superfast fiber, which increased to 54.51% by 2024. This increase meant 2.93 million more homes had access to superfast fiber connections by 2024.

Washington has the ninth-most-improved access to superfast fiber connections. In 2022, 15.36% of households had access to superfast fiber internet connections, which increased by 40.68 percentage points to 56.04% of homes with superfast fiber access by 2024. This was an increase of 1.53 million homes, and was 27.52 percentage points above the national average increase of 13.16.

This increase of 37.56 percentage points is 24.39 above the national average. By 2024, 204,030 more homes had access to superfast fiber connections in Rhode Island.

Marc Porcar, CEO of QR Code Generator, commented on the findings,

“Internet connections are one of the most important things for our modern lives, with many people ranking them in importance alongside utilities like water, gas, and electricity. After all, an ever-increasing number of things require internet connections to function for both work and leisure, with the connections needed growing more demanding by the day. This is only going to increase in intensity with the predicted adoption of AI and other connected software packages.

“This made us wonder what areas in America have done the most to guarantee their residents the best access to this digital landscape in recent years. We found that Nevada ranked top for increase in superfast fiber connections among states over the past two years, with Las Vegas ranking top among large metro areas.”

FCC National Broadband Map

Methodology:

Data on broadband connectivity was obtained from the FCC National Broadband Map from December 2022 to December 2024.

Areas were ranked by the percentage point increase in coverage by fiber connections to residential units with 1,000 Mbps download and 100 Mbps upload speeds between December 2022 and December 2024.

Metro areas with greater than 500,000 residential units in 2024 were classified as large metros in this study and were ranked against each other as well as against all metro areas.

All areas were compared to the average percentage point increase in America overall for further context.
