Some places make it easier to eat well, stay active, and take time for self-care simply because of what’s available and how people engage with it. Access to yoga and Pilates studios, spas, healthy restaurants, and even the local interest in wellness all play a role in shaping how residents can live a balanced lifestyle. These factors together show which cities are actually supporting wellness, rather than just talking about it.
According to a new study by Infinity Laser Spa, some cities are going above and beyond to create a culture centered on physical, mental, and emotional well-being. The study looked at how many yoga and Pilates studios, spas, and healthy food spots each city offers per 100,000 residents, alongside how much locals actually engage with wellness-related topics online
Spokane, Washington, tops the list of wellness-focused cities, thanks to a strong combination of facilities and local interest. The city has 70 yoga and Pilates studios and 71 spas per 100,000 residents, along with 48 healthy food spots per 100K. Residents are also actively engaged in wellness online, with 9% showing interest in related Google searches.
St. Louis, Missouri, takes second place, standing out for its healthy dining and spa culture. The city offers 63 spas per 100K residents and nearly 79 healthy food spots per 100K, the latter among the highest in the top five cities. St. Louis also leads in online engagement, with 14.6% wellness interest, showing that residents are curious and proactive about health and self-care.
In Cincinnati, Ohio, wellness is balanced across all key factors: 52 yoga studios, 60 spas, and 61 healthy food spots per 100K, alongside a 7.6% wellness interest. Similarly, Cleveland combines 50 yoga studios and 70 spas per 100K with 45 healthy food options and 7.7% online interest, creating a city where residents can easily integrate fitness, relaxation, and nutrition into their routines. Richmond, Virginia, rounds out the top five, with 73 yoga studios per 100K, 46 spas, 37 healthy food spots, and a 5.9% wellness interest.
The rest of the top 10 include:
- Milwaukee, Wisconsin: 32 yoga studios, 73 spas, 28 healthy food spots per 100K, 13.1% wellness interest
- Reno, Nevada: 68 yoga studios, 19 spas, 38 healthy food spots per 100K, 11.1% wellness interest
- Chandler, Arizona: 73 yoga studios, 48 spas, 30 healthy food spots per 100K, 5% wellness interest
- St. Paul, Minnesota: 56 yoga studios, 28 spas, 62 healthy food spots per 100K, 7.3% wellness interest
- McKinney, Texas: 75 yoga studios, 11 spas, 38 healthy food spots per 100K, 8% wellness interest
Sam Rock, spokesperson for Infinity Laser Spa, commented on the findings:
“Wellness is about more than exercise or diet. It’s about creating habits and environments that support physical, mental, and emotional health every day. Small routines like a short meditation, mindful eating, or a walk in nature can have a huge impact over time. Communities that encourage these behaviors make it easier for people to live balanced, resilient lives.”
“Investing in wellness isn’t just good for individuals; it benefits the community as a whole. When people feel healthier and less stressed, they engage more with their neighbors, workplaces, and local culture. It’s a ripple effect that strengthens society in ways beyond the obvious.”
Methodology
To rank the most wellness-obsessed cities, the study combined four key factors into a weighted index: the number of yoga and Pilates studios, spas and wellness centers, and healthy food spots per 100,000 residents, along with a wellness interest metric from Google Trends, which measures how often locals search for topics like “yoga,” “pilates,” “meditation,” and “healthy eating.”
Each factor was weighted to reflect its contribution to a holistic wellness lifestyle, and the combined scores produced a composite ranking that accounts for both access to wellness amenities and local engagement with healthy living.
