Apple Music's Lost & Found, the acclaimed program that puts the spotlight on Nashville songwriters by uncovering standout country tracks that were never released, returns today with the second demo of season 2: “Ol' Stray Dog” written by Erik Dylan and Jon Randall. Recorded by Dylan, the track was originally written in January 2019 and is
available exclusively on Apple Music now. The “Found” version, recorded by Riley Green, was released Friday, November 7.
“When we wrote this, we both had been on the road a bunch,” said Dylan. “Most of my career was in a van with a trailer. So I feel close to this song, because I feel like it shows how much of a grind the road can be and how tough it can be to go out and try to follow that dream.”
“If I remember correctly, Erik came in with the thought and title,” said Randall of the day the song was written. “I think we realized the title really lent itself to being a restless soul kind of character. We just started playing a fingerpicking guitar riff, and Erik dropped out the first two lines that felt like the right color and language. Then we were off and running with the story.”
Lost & Found began season 2 last month with “End Of The Night.” The “Lost” demo was written and recorded by Toby Keith alongside Bobby Pinson and David Lee Murphy in 2015, with ERNEST recording the “Found” version. Lost & Found offers unprecedented access into the world of country songwriting, releasing the original demo tracks (“Lost”) followed by their newly recorded, star-studded counterparts (“Found”). Every month will bring a new song from the vault. With Lost & Found, Apple Music mines the vaults and pairs tracks with pitch-perfect rising or established artists to record official single releases, in incredible Spatial Audio.
Green will join Today's Country Radio this Friday, November 7 on Apple Music Country to talk about his version of “Ol' Stray Dog.”
Lost & Found has its own dedicated space on Apple Music where listeners can find playlists for the “Lost” demos, the newfound singles, the Lost & Found Radio show episodes and more playlists from the participating songwriters.
