Book Nook - A Simple Seed

A Simple Seed (Katie Wood, 10/14/25, Penguin Random House) is the modern Chicken Soup for the Soul—but instead of reading inspiring stories, families create them together through daily practice. In a season that's supposed to be about connection but often feels like chaos, this under-$20 guided journal is the antidote to the anxiety, overstimulation, and overscheduling both kids and adults feel in today's digital world.

It's the remedy for parents exhausted by the "gentle parenting" concept who just want something simple that works—a way to instill basic values like gratitude, kindness, and resilience without lectures or complexity. The quick exercises take just 3-5 minutes: "I Am" affirmations, gratitude prompts, kindness challenges, and a daily joke that builds emotional strength one morning (or bedtime) at a time.

Former teacher and mom of four Katie Wood created this journal while navigating through her own tough season, finding solace in daily gratitude. She designed it to help families navigate both the storms and sunshine of life—together.

Katie Wood is a dynamic thought leader, entrepreneur, and author of the best-selling journal A Simple Seed. In 2014, she shifted from a decade-long career in special education to pursue entrepreneurship full-time. Katie frequently shares her insights at training events and schools, and she is actively developing multiple business ventures.

Beyond her professional achievements, Katie was a walk-on player and two-year captain of the Division 1 basketball team at Providence College. However, she considers her most fulfilling role to be that of a mother to her four energetic children and a supportive fire-wife.
