Caring Connections - Social Anxiety Survey

Parents may roll their eyes when their kids freeze up in social situations, but grown-ups are also struggling. Between remote work, digital parenting tools, and rising anxiety, adults are feeling just as out of practice as their kids.

Sudoku Bliss recently surveyed adults in 40 major cities about their social anxiety, its causes, and manifestations.

Highlights:

  • Gen Zers in Phoenix, AZ, Cleveland, OH, and Pittsburgh, PA, feel the most socially awkward.
  • Nearly 2 in 5 Americans have prepared a few conversation starters before attending a social gathering.
  • More than two-fifths of Americans say smartphones AND the pandemic have increased their social discomfort.
  • 56% of Americans use “avoidance” tactics to skip human interactions at least once a week.
  • 85% of Gen Zers think social awkwardness is a widespread problem for people their age.
  • 62% of Gen Zers report meeting new people as being a major situation for social anxiety.
