Just last week Congress saw the first bipartisan bill aimed at curbing electricity rate hikes due to data center power usage; so what’s the impact for Americans living near data centers?
A new survey on utility bills by American Home Shield found that roughly 14% of survey respondents lived near a data center:
- 94% say their rates increased, compared to a national average of 88%
- Average monthly utility bill: $255, compared to the average of $187(+$68)
- Bills increased by an average of 15% year over year
Among all Americans, 1 in 5 missed a utility payment in the last year, and 49% are overwhelmed by utility costs.
