I love books for kids that are also beautiful and enchanting enough for adults, and that's exactly how I felt about a book I recently got to review, Pondering: A Story in Cinquains.
First of all, it's been a long time (high school AP English) since I've really explored cinquain poetry. A cinquain is made up of five lines, sometimes rhyming, sometimes not. In this particular book, the American cinquain is made up of 2-4-6-8-2 syllables, giving each page a steady rhythm. The illustrations are gorgeous and the subject matter celebrates a vibrant ecosystem found in ponds (so the title is also a pun - I love the word play).
The back of the book contains more information, and the book's home page (above) also has downloadable activities that go along with the book.
It's a beautiful addition to any child's bookshelf, especially for families who want to encourage budding nature lovers!
