Book Nook - Through the Garden Gate

A perfect gift for budding gardeners, fairy lovers, and young explorers, Through the Garden Gate opens the door to wonder waiting just outside.

Through the Garden Gate is a lushly illustrated new picture book that invites children ages 4-8 to explore the beauty of nature while sparking their imagination. Written by award-winning garden designer Sharon Rose and illustrated by acclaimed artist Erin Brown, the book is both a whimsical adventure and an introduction to the wonders of native plants and natural ecosystems.

When young Miles stumbles upon a mysterious neighbor’s gate he steps into a secret garden alive with fluttering fairies, talking animals, and extraordinary plants. Inspired by real-life flora and native ecology, this enchanting adventure invites children to slow down, look closely at the natural world, and discover the magic hidden just outside their doors.

Blending imagination with authentic environmental knowledge, Through the Garden Gate offers a unique reading experience that appeals to both children and adults. The book features beautifully detailed illustrations alongside educational backmatter that introduces readers to the plants and critters featured in the story, transforming the reading experience into a fun and interactive seek-and-find activity.

“As a garden designer, I’ve spent years helping people reconnect with the natural world,” Sharon says. “With Through the Garden Gate, I wanted to create a story that captures the sense of wonder children feel when they discover nature for themselves—where imagination and real-world learning grow side by side.”

Perfect for families, classrooms, and libraries, Through the Garden Gate nurtures social-emotional learning, environmental awareness, and STEM-based discovery. Through its engaging fantasy adventure, the story gently introduces themes of caring for the Earth, understanding ecosystems, and appreciating the delicate balance of nature. A helpful glossary in the back further enriches the reading experience, offering kid-friendly explanations of the plants and animals featured throughout the story.

Through the Garden Gate offers a timeless story that nurtures imagination while fostering a lifelong love of nature.
