A new nationwide survey from Trimi Health explores the financial commitment Americans are making to weight loss, from monthly budgeting and spending tradeoffs to the rising cost of treatment.
Here’s a look at the financial realities of weight loss:
- Americans spend an average of $116 per month ($1,392 annually) on weight-loss efforts
- Nearly 2 in 5 intentionally budget for weight-loss expenses each month
- Nearly 3 in 10 Americans have cut spending elsewhere to afford weight-loss expenses
- 34% have delayed or avoided a weight-loss treatment because of cost
The study also found that 52% of Americans would be more likely to consider prescription weight-loss medication if it were more affordable.
