The first release from their forthcoming album, Naptown Blues, “I’m Going Back to Tennessee” was originally released in 1929 by Indianapolis blues artists Leroy Carr and Scrapper Blackwell. This release sets the stage for a powerful 11-song project that pays tribute to the rich blues history of Indianapolis, Indiana, and the songs of the city’s once-famed blues recording stars Carr and Blackwell. The duo’s groundbreaking work helped establish Indianapolis as an influential force in the blues genre. And now, with their forthcoming album, Wyze looks to honor their legacy while bringing his band’s voice and perspective to their music, a sound that shaped the city’s musical and cultural history. You’ll also hear lots of acoustic instruments: acoustic guitar, acoustic bass, acoustic harmonicas, plus just a single vocal. Again, that’s how Carr and Blackwell recorded things.”
