“What started as simple bedtime stories slowly became something much bigger,” says Priest. “Night after night, the adventures grew alongside my children’s imaginations. Those stories became a source of comfort, laughter, escapism, and family connection during difficult times, and eventually I realised there might be other families who would want to step into that world too. I wanted to create the kind of story children look forward to returning to at bedtime, filled with adventure, mystery, humour, and characters that feel like loyal friends.”
Continuing, “I’ve spent much of my life working in environments where you see both the best and hardest parts of people, first in the Royal Air Force and now within the ambulance service. Writing these stories reminded me how important imagination, kindness, courage, and wonder are, especially for children growing up in a world that can sometimes feel overwhelming. At its heart, The Night Riders is about friendship, bravery, and believing that magic can still exist in ordinary places.
