Enriching Education - State Financial Education Standards

The NFEC’s recently released a national evaluation of state financial education standards.

The evaluation found that no state currently meets the minimum academic standards typically expected of core subjects such as math, science, and English. The national alignment score was just 3.92% when measured against structural standards that include instructional time, educator qualifications, curriculum rigor, assessment, and accountability.

The report raises a practical question for anyone concerned about student readiness: if financial education is intended to prepare students for real-world financial decisions after graduation, why are the standards not comparable to other required subjects?
