Consumer Critique: Seat Snug

Today's review is the SeatSnug. This device is designed to make the lap belt for a booster seat fit more properly. It is supposed to eliminate rocking, tipping, and bouncing, using technology originally designed for drivers who took their normal cars to racetracks. The company markets the device to a variety of people, including off-road vehicle drivers, caretakers of elderly or handicapped, and people with back pain (the device is designed to prevent slouching).

The SeatSnug is targeted specifically to booster seats, to allow the lap belt to more properly secure the child, and has earned The National Parenting Center's Seal of Approval.

The biggest disadvantage of this product is that, like car seats, it can be difficult to install. The directions included are clear, but since every vehicle is slightly different, and the SeatSnug is designed to be tight on the belt, it does take effort to install properly. The cost is also somewhat higher than one would expect just by looking at it - $35 - but to me would be worth it for the extra security and peace of mind. Once installed, the SeatSnug is easy to use. The device can be turned off while adjusting the belt and on once the child is seated properly, to make sure that it is securing the child appropriately.
