Consumer Critique: Atkins Pasta and Mix

I had an opportunity through Mom Central to try out some Atkins products - Penne Pasta and Baking Mix.

I'm not a huge fan of the Atkins diet in general - low-carb is not my thing. However, the Atkins diet does work well for people, and the carbohydrate-heavy products I tried as part of this blog tour were pretty healthy as far as carbs are concerned. I tried out the All-Purpose Baking Mix and the Penne Pasta. They both indicate the Atkins phase they're appropriate for (2-3-4 for mix and 4 for pasta) which makes them easy to incorporate for those in the Atkins diet.

For those not following the Atkins diet but just trying to avoid heavily processed carbs without whole grain, these products will work well. The baking mix made pancakes that were a little denser than my typical pancakes, but they tasted great. It works well for waffles, and the biscuits I detected no change. The penne pasta was a hit for everyone in the family. They have a firmer texture than plain noodles, but I liked it better - it actually felt like there was something there.

You can buy these products at the Atkins online store or use the store locator to find a regular store near you.

I wrote this review while participating in a blog campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Atkins and received samples to facilitate my candid review. In addition, Mom Central sent me a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.
