Website Spotlight: BrainFuel and Lumosity

I'd like to highlight two great websites that provide entertainment while stretching your brain - and your kids' brains as well.

Lumosity is geared towards adults, and provides great brain workouts in only 10 minutes a day. The feedback reports come quickly and are detailed and very helpful, showing places where your brain skills are strong and places where you can improve - and then what activities you can do to strengthen those areas. Lumosity works your brain in speed, memory, attention, flexibility, and problem solving. Each of these areas has sub-sets (such as memory: location, working, short-term, visual; or speed: processing, math). You can take baseline tests, and then play games focused specifically for those areas you score low in. There are free accounts, and if you really like Lumosity you can subscribe to access all games and training.

Then there's BrainFuel4Kids, a sister site focused on brain-based activities for children. The tagline is Brain Fuel: maximize learning potential. It's actually geared towards parents and kids, as the "brain food" and "brain health" sections provide tips for parents on helping their kids learn as well as possible. Brain health is divided into facts, exercising, and protecting; brain food is divided into breakfast, lunch, and vitamins/herbs. There's also an online forum to discuss various areas of the site and tips. There are three games that are kid-friendly on the Brain Fuel website, and then if you use the code listed on that website, you can get half off your Lumosity subscription.

The games are fun, and some of them are addicting - but it feels a little better than playing other online games because these have a purpose. So if you love playing online time-wasting games, consider checking out these websites so that you have a purpose and reason.

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of BrainFuel and received an insulated lunch bag from California Innovations to thank me for taking the time to participate.
