Healthy Habits: Veggies

#LittleBlends and TwitterMoms are sponsoring a contest to promote LittleBlends toddler food and to help share tips on how to get more veggies in your kid's diet. LittleBlends from Horizon are all-natural yogurt blends of fruits and vegetables. Each 4-ounce cup contains the RDA of 20% calcium, 25% protein, omega-3 DHA and probiotics.

Little Blends is an all-natural yogurt, meaning it’s produced without added growth hormones, artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. It is also created without high fructose corn syrup.

I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but I have a very picky toddler who is only just now starting to try new things. Fruits were always easy, but veggies were harder. Here are some of the tips we've tried along the way.

- Mix pureed veggies with plain yogurt. This sounds kind of weird, but it really works well. She loves yogurt, and we could easily get her to eat squash and avocados if they were pureed and mixed with about half yogurt, half veggies.
- A little bit of sweet flavor helps. Cooked mashed carrots taste really good with a little bit of brown sugar or honey.
- Put the veggies in something else. This unfortunately doesn't work so well for us, since she picks around veggies if they're in rice or macaroni, but could work for others.
- Tomatoes are easy to sneak in around stuff. She won't eat the meat or chunks of tomatoes on spaghetti sauce, but if the noodles have some other sauce on them, she'll usually eat them.
- Repeated exposure without forcing really does work. This week she tried corn, carrots, and beans, without us pushing them on her much.

Got other tips? Feel free to share them below, or post on your blog and enter the contest.
