Consumer Critique: Kellogg's plus fiber

Kellogg's is trying to do its part to help consumers be more aware of nutrition and health. They have launched a nutrition website focused on fiber and other healthy eating tips. This site also explains reading food labels and has information for healthcare professionals, as well as useful educational materials (appropriate for classrooms or home education).

As part of this focus on fiber and health, they are also re-introducing popular cereals with fiber - Apple Jacks and Froot Loops. I have had the opportunity to try both flavors and was asked to review how they compare.

When we first tried the Apple Jacks, my husband was disappointed. They didn't taste like he remembered. Of course, it's been a while since we've had Kellogg's Apple Jacks - we've had other apple-flavored cereal since then. It is true that there's a difference between the regular and extra fiber cereals, but in my opinion it's more of a texture thing. It's hard to describe exactly what's different, but they are different - especially side-by-side. However, both are sweet, and both contain the fruity flavor of the original types. And both were thoroughly enjoyed by my toddler, who didn't seem to notice the difference at all.

Although I still think the sugary aspect of the cereal isn't something you want your kids to have all the time, having the extra fiber does make it possible to feel better about feeding it to your kids - especially since they are fortified with plenty of necessary vitamins.

"I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Kellogg’s and received boxes of Froot Loops and Apple Jacks and a gift certificate to thank me for taking the time to participate."
