Here are some great bonding activities for the dinner time.
- Tell your kids that if they can stump you with something they learned that day, they get a special treat (a day off from doing dishes or another appropriate small reward).
- Go around the table, each adding to the same made-up story.
- Have a ritual. Ours is to have everyone say the worst and best part of the day. One of my friends adds the funniest part of the day. Another friend has her kids share one way they helped someone else that day.
- Ask questions, but be respectful. Some kids don't want to share a lot, but if it's a family pattern to share at the dinner table, even reticent kids will contribute something.
