Fun Freetime: Great American Backyard Campout (and giveaway)

What are you doing on Saturday June 26th? We'll be camping with my in-laws. That's actually right in line with the National Wildlife Federation's 6th annual Great American Backyard Campout (click on the Campout site to find camping tips, games and activities, and songs too!). This encourages families to step away from the screens for a night and into a backyard or campground. it is a national fundraising event to support the Be Out There program, which tries to get parents to encourage their kids to spend more unstructured playtime outdoors. (The Be Out There website has a lot of great activities to help you get started).

If you follow American Girl you know that the Girl of the Year for 2010 is Lanie. They're encouraging girls and their families to get outside by hosting events and activities at the American Girl Place stores in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles.

The Hershey Company is also partnering with the NWF - if you register to participate you can get a $1 off coupon for Hershey's Milk Chocolate six-pack, a common ingredient in S'mores. (Visit Pure S'mores to download the coupon and for more tips and information.
