Healthy Habits: Getting Kids Moving

Childhood obesity is a huge problem. It's currently predicted that today's kids will be the first generation to have a shorter lifespan than their parents. It doesn't help the many schools are limiting PE time, or cutting it out entirely. Reduced physical activity affects children's health, and also affects their learning ability. I know this from my own experience in the classroom, and there's a lot of scientific evidence to back it up.

I have highlighted the program BreakPal before. It's a great program that just inserts reminders to get up and move. It's being expanded to classrooms now. Teachers who use it can display the exercise and take some short breaks for micro-workouts - just enough to get kids moving and help them re-focus. It actually ends up saving time, since students are more focused during the classroom time that follows.

BreakPal is a finalist in First Lady Michelle Obama's "apps for healthy kids" contest, promoted by the White House and the USDA.

BreakPal will give a premium version to anyone who votes for our app. You just have to contact the developer and say you voted. No catch. A free premium account and a thank you for voting.

It's a really quick process that I've already done.

1) Register at the contest site.
2) Confirm your email address (don't worry they won't spam you)
3) Go directly to BreakPal and click vote

If you're interested in more information, check out this post on BreakPal's blog.

While you're voting, check out all of the other great apps available to help you and your kids get and stay healthy!
