Healthy Habits: Fragrances

Did you know that scent has the power to boost our mood and help with weight loss? If you're tired of your current fragrances, try switching it up to include lemon-based or citrus scents (it can boost your mood by triggering the release of norepinephrine) or green apple, banana, or peppermint (shown in a study by the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation to help people lose an average of 30 pounds over 6 months). There are some out there that won't make you smell like a fruit basket or cleaning supplies. Sephora, Bath and Body Works, Pacifica, Dana, and more all make perfume with lemon scents, and Harvey Prince, DKNY, Paradise Cosmetics, and Out of Eden all make perfume with the one or more of the latter three. You can also easily find these fragrances in scented lotions.

If you're applying perfume, be sure to put it on pulse points to help it last longer into the day, such as the insides of your wrists or the nape of your neck or the base of your throat. Consider applying it over lotion - the moisture will help the scent last longer too.
