Consumer Critique: Fo Fo Figgily's Surprise Birthday Adventure

I recently got a copy of Fo Fo Figgily's Surprise Birthday Adventure. I had never heard of Fo-Fo Figgily before, but I was intrigued to check it out.

There were some definite pluses to this DVD. First (and most importantly), my daughters love it. They're 20 months and 3 years old, and both were capivated by Fo Fo Figgily. Whether it was the fact that he looks like a big stuffed animal, the brightly colored set, or the exaggerated expressions, they were enthralled and my older daughter asks for it when we have movie time.

Secondly, the DVD tries to weave in healthy tips, like the fact that sweets area "sometimes food," and physical fitness, periodically during the show.

There were two drawbacks that I saw. The first was that sometimes the fitness tips seemed a little bit awkwardly placed, and right afterwards they'd splice in a few seconds of what happened just before it. This isn't a huge issue, and didn't bother my kids, but did seem to interrupt the flow just a little bit. The second was that some aspects seemed a little bit exaggerated, but that's pretty common in shows geared towards little kids anyway.

So, bottom line, my kids loved it, and there was nothing offensive or inappropriate in it. They have a website with some good tips and activities for parents and kids as well. Plus, they're inexpensive - only $6.95 each, or $10.95 for the two currently-produced episodes together.

The website is fun to check out too. There are some easily toddler and preschool games, as well as tools for parents and a parenting blog.

Disclosure: I received a copy of Fo Fo Figgily's Surprise Birthday Adventure to facilitate this review.
