Thrifty Thinking: NFCC calculators

At the end of summer, you may be getting bills for summer vacations, beach getaways, summer camps, or other seasonal expenses. Although most people know it's important to make smart financial decisions, but it's easy to overlook budgeting for seasonal expenses, whether it's summer getaways or holiday gift-giving.

The nonprofit organization, National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC) has tools to give you a way to better manage your finances. They've created numerous financial calculators to aid in decision making. These calculators can be used not only for big purchases, and can also help plan for future year round issues by providing estimates for questions such as “How much mortgage might I qualify for,” or “Should I refinance?”

At http://www.nfcc.org/FinancialEducation/calculators.cfm, you'll find brief summaries highlighting what each calculator offers. While you’re there, you can check out the different types of calculators offered so that if down the road you have a question concerning things like loans or retirement, you’ll know these are available for your reference.
